Maximizing Your Gas Mileage

Any time we can squeeze a few more feet out of each gallon is always a welcome opportunity. There are always maintenance repairs we can do to maximize our gas mileage. Keeping your car tuned up, changing your air filter, and keeping tires properly inflated can all add up to savings at the pump with better gas mileage.

Your everyday driving habits can affect your gas mileage as well. Saving gas while you drive involves a less aggressive demeanor behind the wheel. These easy tips can really make a difference:

Accelerate More Gradually

The harder you press the gas pedal the more gas you’re pouring down the hole.

Anticipate Stops

Keep an eye ahead of you by a block or so so you can see if a light is changing red and take your foot off the gas earlier. By coasting instead of driving under power, you burn less fuel.

Drive more slowly on the highway
Shaving 5 or 10 miles per hour off your highway speed saves lots of gas, and probably won’t add much time to your trip.

Shift Gears Earlier

If your car has a manual transmission, try shifting gears at a lower RPM. The higher the engine revs the more gas it’s going to burn.

Change your style of driving according to the tips above, and you will definitely save money at the pump.
