Tips For Purchasing A New Vehicle

Before visiting a dealership you should research prices and features that are available for the vehicle you are interested in purchasing.

Consider getting a car loan from your bank or credit union before you visit the car dealer.

If you have a trade-in vehicle, check its value with the NADA (National Automobile Dealers Association) Guide, available on the web at www.nadaguides.com before visiting a dealership. If you’re trading in your car, be sure to bring your Maryland Certificate of Title and lien release (if applicable). If your title is lost ask the dealer to apply for a duplicate one on your behalf. If the dealer is to pay off an existing loan, follow up with your lending institution to make sure that they do.

Bring your insurance information and registration plates if you wish to transfer them to the new vehicle.
Read every document that’s given to you and do not sign any blank papers. Verbal agreements are difficult to prove, so get all agreements in writing.

The best protection is to be an educated consumer. Do your homework; know what you want and how much you can afford before you begin.
