Rush hour and holidays bring on heavy traffic and it is important to be a safe driver and keep frustration levels low. Remember- drive safe to save money on your MAIF insurance premiums!
Summer Road Trip Driving Tips
A great way to avoid traffic is by planning your travel times around peak traffic hours. Between 7:00 to 9:00 am and 5:00 to 7:00 pm during Monday to Friday are the busiest times to travel. Saturdays mid morning are also high traffic times due to the masses traveling to and from the beach. If you have to pass by a city, try finding rounds that go around the city instead of through it to save some time.
We know that traffic can be frustrating. But, aggressive driving is unsafe– and often the cause of accidents. The more accidents you are in the higher your insurance premium. If you find yourself stuck in congestion, take a deep breath and enjoy the scenery. There is no point in getting aggravated and angry and fellow drivers stuck in the same traffic as you. Do not weave in and out of congestion in attempts to get ahead because this will only increase frustrations. If you do need to merge, use your turn signals to let other drivers around you know what you’re about to do and to help prepare their course of action.
We know your busy and have big plans to attend. But never, ever text and drive. If the message is urgent, or you are lost, pull over to the side of the road to send your message. Looking at your phone for any reason while driving causes accidents and can turn you into a reckless driver.
Stay Insured
It is also important to make sure you are covered before hitting the road. The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund insures any driver, regardless of driving history. Contact a MAIF provider to find out your low auto insurance quote. Make sure to stay alert and make safe driving decisions.
